The Cycling Trail around the Tatra mountains is certainly one of the most beautiful cycling routes in Poland and Slovakia, full of breathtaking views, diverse landscapes, cultural and historical gems. The trail leads along bicycle paths, gravel roads, forest paths and partially main roads and gives you the opportunity to go around the mountain range in a loop. This tour will give you a chance to see the highest peaks of the Tatras from every perspective and, on the way, a chance to taste cuisine from both countries and visit one of the most architecturally unique places for that region.
You will also pass Spiš, a region with a rich and diverse history, a place where Polish, Hungarian, Slovakian and German cultures and traditions cross over, creating
a unique social and cultural landscape. For centuries this multi cultural area has shaped the everyday life of the people who live there, reflected in their art, cuisine, architecture and local festivals that can be found there.
In six days you will do around 302 km with 2,500 m of elevation gain. If you are up for that challenge GO FOR IT. And remember – we always offer van shuttles for those who would like to give yourselves a little rest or want to chill out in the evening.
* Due to the variety of surfaces and some sections on a main roads the tour itself is recommended for cyclists who already have some experience and are also familiar with car traffic.

First easy day of biking with some nice mileage. No major climbs, with some more difficult gravel and forest sections. Breakfast and short transfer to the starting point in Czarny Dunajec, entering the trail by joining an asphalt scenic cycle path along a former railway embankment with beautiful views for the whole Tatra Mountain Range. Leading to the border with Slovakia – a pleasant descent in a beautiful, forested environment. Lunch on the way in Oravsky Podzamok where in a local restaurant (called “a koliba”) there will be a chance to taste your first Slovakian delicacies like bryndzove halušky (sheep cheese dumplings) or fried cheese with tatar sauce. Later, a short visit of the Orava Castle from the XIII century built on the rock above the river like an “eagle’s nest”. Continue cycling to the campsite where all the tents are prepared and the campfire will already be lit and waiting for you.
Cycling distamce: 69 km
After waking up and a proper breakfast, the trail leads about 15 km uphill from Dolny Kubin to Malatina, in some places there’s an inclination of 12 degrees. Your effort’s will be rewarded with views of the Tatra Mountains and the Little Fatra Mountains, as well as beautiful wooden cottages in Lestiny and Osadka along the way. Then long descent all the way to Liptovska Mara Lake – initially an old road with thick gravel and the so-called over time („retroasphalt”), it turns into a pleasant, gentle ride downhill among the greenery of the surrounding forest to be surprised suddenly by the distant views of Tatras. Today’s shorter but challenging mileage is rewarded by muscle relaxation in one of the thermal pools in the area.
Cycling distance: 40 km
Leaving Liptovsky Mikulas bike path leads along the river Vah followed by a beautiful section to the Cierny Vah reservoir and then a long, pleasant ride through a gravel road in the forest along the Cierny Vah River. Then ride up the asphalt road, rewarded with a panorama of the High Tatra Mountains, suddenly emerging as you round the bend – one of the most beautiful points of the entire route. Admire the views during the picturesque descent to Strba and for those up for an extra challenge you can cycle the long incline to the Strbskie Lake. Overnight in the area of the lake with beautiful vistas of the surrounded mountains.
Cycling distance: 66 km
Say goodbye to the highest pick of Tatras – Gerlach and the highest pick of the Polish Tatras – Rysy and continue the route after a hearty breakfast, cycling with some inclines at the beginning and a long 10 km climb at the end of the day. This day is full of different attractions – from the changing landscapes of the Slovakian countryside, to visiting charming historical sites such as Spisska Sobota or Kezmarok. Ending the day in Zdiar, where you will be rewarded with a beautiful view of the Tatra Mountains and an extremely charming town full of traditional buildings.
Cycling distance: 82 km
The departure from Ždiar begins with a long ascent with beautiful views of Hryvan mountain, and after reaching the Razcestie pri Tablici pass (1125 m above sea level), there is almost 8 km of descent finishing with vivid views of the Bielskie Tatras down to the village of Osturna. It is worth stopping here for the last chance for some Slovakian delicacies in our favourite restaurant. The town itself is known for its Ruthenian folk architecture monuments. On the way to the Poland, we pass only arable fields and finally reach the Polish border, from where for the next few kilometers we face quite long and sometimes steep uphill and downhill slopes see the Tatras in the far distance to end eventually in starting point of Czarny Dunajec.

I have been fortunate enough to have visited Poland twice. Both times were most enjoyable as you have so much choice of scenery, culture and food. The team have a vast amount of knowledge and are very careful to attend to all the details required to make for a most fun, comfortable and enjoyable holiday. The team all speak English which is extremely useful but you can master basic greetings in Polish if you want to. Would definitely recommend a guided tour in Krakow. Can’t wait for my next visit.”
“I had a wonderful time with polandmore on their winter adventure tour in January 2023. The company was very professional and friendly, and they took care of everything from transportation to accommodation. The itinerary was packed with fun and exciting activities, such as kulig (horse-drawn sleigh ride), sledging, and visiting a national park with breathtaking views. I also learned a lot about the Polish culture and history, which was very meaningful to me as my grandad was Polish. I highly recommend polandmore to anyone who wants to experience the beauty and charm of Poland in winter.”
“Our trip to Zakopane with Polandmore was simply superb!! Everything was organised and arranged to perfection, we could really relax and enjoy all the natural beauty Poland has to offer. The sleigh ride through the woods at night to a quiet spot to cook sausages was the highlight of the trip. Cannot recommend enough and cannot wait to go back for more adventures! Thank you to the whole team at Polandmore for a very memorable holiday!”
